Whether your story contains joy, pain, triumph, tribulations past, current or future - you are the centre of your story. Your story is worthy. You are worthy. I don't take it lightly when someone asks me to commemorate any part of their story turning Mint & Birch into a passion project means that I will be able to provide more one-on-one attention for each person as we celebrate your story together.
My name is Jessica, and I'm the maker behind Mint & Birch. I am mama of 5, wife, artist, and friend. I am an advocate for mental health and mother to my inner child. On a rainy day, you can find me snuggled up on the couch with my babies under a mint coloured blanket.
I struggle with my own mental health, and I am passionate about speaking openly on it because we all deserve to cherish, live and savour our lives, even when we feel like we are in the darkness. Where there is darkness, there is also light.
My purpose for Mint & Birch is to celebrate stories and hold space - whether they are ones of sorrow, joy, heartbreak, sadness, triumph, or grief. Everyone has their story to tell and jewellery is a way that we can honour those stories. My favourite word is Kintsukuroi, which is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with real gold, making the break a beautiful feature of the piece and enhancing the value of the once broken piece. This was my story for my 3rd baby, who born via traumatic c-section that I had a hard time healing from. (Read more here!) My goal is to celebrate your stories with beautiful jewellery! Most importantly, Mint & Birch is my creative journal.
Customs are taken on a commission basis and is a collaborative process between us.
Working one on one with you, each piece is handcrafted to order individually. This has shifted from a business model into a passion project.request a custom
it's all handcrafted by one person.
Each Mint & Birch piece starts out as sheets of precious metal and cut into bars by hand. I file each one to create smooth, sleek lines and they are polished individually using only old fashioned manual hand tools, and no machines. The nostalgia and sentimentality of the Mint & Birch bar necklace can be felt in your hands when you open your Mint box!
Hand lettered pieces are some of my favourite pieces to do. You ask me to hand letter and draw your names or words, and I provide a few designs for you to pick from! Each one is unique to you and drawn with a pencil or calligraphy dip ink pen!
